As we begin the month of May, there are lots of things to observe and celebrate, including National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, National Photography Month, National Salsa Month, National Strawberry Month, and National Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Today also begins Teacher Appreciation Week. Go thank one of our heroic teachers! They've been nothing short of incredible. News you need to know The GOP convention was held Saturday and delegates elected a new leadership team of Carson Jorgenson, chair, Jordan Hess, vice-chair, Olivia Horlacher, secretary and Mike Bird Treasurer. Hundreds of rowdy delegates booed Senator Mitt Romney, who reminded them he has been Repulican his entire life and was, in fact, the 2012 Republican nominee for President. Hundreds also applauded him. The attempt to pass a resolution censuring him failed. In other news, the Utah Army National Guard has promoted its first woman to the rank of brigadier general. General Charlene Dalto has been in the military for 38 years. She works as a nurse in her civilian life. And, a "real life river monster" was pulled out of the Detroit river on Friday. She weighed 240 pounds, was nearly 7 feet long and is believed to be 100 years old!
