Plus: Sad news (but great photos) from the Rose Bowl, adoption is complicated and who will be the new Speaker of the House?
Good morning! Have you been enjoying the snow? ☁️ 20 – 31° in Logan | ❄️ 40% chance 🌥️ 26 – 36° in Salt Lake City | ❄️ 20% chance 🌨️ 32 – 44° in St. George | 💧 60% chance (or possibly: ❄️) Happy New Year! 🥳 Back when I was in college, I would make grand plans for my New Year’s Eve celebration. In recent years, I’ve found that going to bed early or reading a book is more my speed. The first two days of 2022 have been filled with naps, lovely winter walks and catching up on my embroidery projects. Don’t judge me for my fast-paced lifestyle. Someone definitely had a more exciting New Year’s Eve than me, however. On Jan. 1, at 12:34 a.m., the appropriately named Wynter Kisa Magandazi was the first baby to be born at an Intermountain facility in Utah. Her parents, Madi and Jermaine, are thrilled to have her here. And why wouldn’t they be? She’s very cute! Tell me: What’s the most exciting thing that happened to you this year? (All three days of it!) Also on our minds: Sad news (but fabulous photos) from the Rose Bowl, adoption is more complicated than you think and who will be the new Speaker of the House? |

Many parents experience a similar situation when they find some children flourish in certain environments and others flounder. Sorensen believes that allowing parents to use a portion of the per-student funding and move them to a different school — be it a private, charter or another public school — could help children succeed in their education. |

| Utah has long since been a land of pioneering innovation, and now the rest of the nation appears to be “waking up and smelling the aspartame,” as Meg Walter puts it. These “dirty soda” shops like Sodalicious and Swig have been immensely successful, opening up franchises all over Utah. Walter suggests much of this appeal is due to a market that doesn’t drink coffee, a product that appeals to busy moms and, well, they’re just delicious. Either way, if they take off across the nation, no one will be complaining. Read more here.
