Are teacup pigs real? A Utah animal rescuer has 3 little pigs — and they’re actually pretty big |

| | "Teacup" pigs have gained a spotlight in pop culture, with the mythical breed of pig securing its own reality TV show, "Pig Little Lies." The show follows the story of Dante and Beatrice, two pigs that were dumped at a high-kill shelter and subsequently rescued. The show also shines a light on the ramifications of prospective pet owners expecting a lap-dog sized piglet, only to realize that "teacup" pigs don't remain fun-sized forever. "The allure of cuddling a tiny pig and taking it in as a pet has been a problem for years, but now shelters and nonprofit rescue organizations are being overrun — and all because the network says scammers are selling baby piglets disguised as full-grown 'teacup' pigs," our colleague Amy Joi O’Donoghue writes. To aid her in her search of determining the actuality of "teacup" pigs, Amy Joi spoke with Chris Mortensen, executive director of Ritzy Rescue Ranch in Erda, Utah. Mortensen has adopted three rescue pigs, and gave some insight into "teacup" pigs. | "Haven’t heard of the Independent American Party? It officially formed in Utah in 1998 and holds strong conservative values with a heavy emphasis on following the U.S. Constitution," our colleague Carlene Coombs writes. The party has seen consistent growth over the past several years, but there may be some confusion behind the group's gain in numbers. In the state of Utah, if you wish not to be affiliated with a political party, i.e. Democratic or Republican, you would need to register as unaffiliated, not independent. Josh Daniels, Utah County Clerk, said that he believes many voters are mistakenly registering as Independent American. “I would bet that 90% of people who are registered with the IAP don’t realize they’re registered with an actual political party,” Daniels said. Because the term "independent" is widely used to refer to neutral or unaffiliated, it's understandable that confusion could arise. However, Greg Duerden, the Independent American Party of Utah chairman, isn't so sure about the idea that voters are inadvertently registering with the party ... he has some different thoughts on the matter.
