NV Energy to add BESS as it works to trim reliance on western energy markets

We have known the potential of battery energy storage systems (BESS) for a long time and it’s exciting to see that utilities are now beginning to explore different use cases for batteries in pilot projects. Today, I want to point you to two different utilities who are using batteries for different reasons. In Nevada, NV energy is using a BESS to help it use more renewable energy and rely less on California energy markets. In Maryland, Potomac Edison is installing a battery to help offset demand from DC fast chargers that will be installed along an interstate highway.

Potomac Edison is testing the use of a 500-kW/1-MWh battery installed alongside two DCFC and one charging station along an interstate.
