Utility training programs paying off |
|
|
There are two forces acting on the electric utility business and they both demand action. One is the move to decarbonize and electrify. This energy transition will require electric utilities to manage the grid down to a much more minute level and will require equipment upgrades and new technology all along the electric distribution system. The second driving force is greater weather impacts due to climate change. So simultaneously while utilities are working to upgrade and install new technology on the grid, the grid is also being hit with wildfires, storms, droughts, and more extreme weather that could take it down. This week, we have announcements about how utilities are going to get the work done to both decarbonize and harden the grid. They are preparing the next generation of workers through academies and training programs. Read about two of them in our lead story. |
