COVID IN COURT: The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled Friday that hospitals may mandate coronavirus vaccines for employees, dealing a blow to hospital staffers who challenged those requirements and opening the door for similar edicts by private employers across the state. In Washington, meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court seemed open to such a requirement for hospitals, but the court's s conservative majority appeared skeptical of the Biden administration's authority to impose a vaccine-or-testing requirement on other large employers. The U.S. Supreme Court did not immediately rule on the issues.
ON SECOND THOUGHT: Just two days after appointing Metairie businessman Rafael Rafidi to an open seat on the Jefferson Parish School Board, board members reversed course Friday and told him to resign. The reason: Their rising discomfort with Rafidi's profane social media posts slamming politicians, Democrats and schoolteachers.
LAST RITES: Three more Roman Catholic schools in the New Orleans area are closing for good at the end of the current semester, the latest sign of slipping enrollment since Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005.
