The Trial That Would Change History

As the bitterness of New England colonies threatened to explode into war with England, young John Adams accepted the greatest challenge of his life: Defending the British soldiers who had killed five colonists in the Boston Massacre, at great personal risk.

In John Adams Under Fire, New York Times bestselling authors Dan Abrams and David Fisher draw on the largely forgotten trial transcript, using Adams’ own words to transport readers to colonial Boston, a city roiling with rebellion, to tell the incredible story of Founding Father John Adams courage and his belief that whatever was to happen, it was dependent on “A government of laws, and not of men.

Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Stuart Varney

Fox Business host Stuart Varney offered a dose of both political and objective reality to Trump campaign national press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Wednesday over the coronavirus and the cancelling of large events..

While major large crowd events around the globe, including Democratic candidate rallies, are being cancelled or delayed in light of what is now officially deemed a pandemic by the WHO, the Trump campaign intends to go ahead with the President's frequent rallies.

"Are you a little bit worried about holding those kind of rallies?" Varney logically asked.

McEnany began her answer with platitudes about how capable Trump's staff are, and when she mentioned  Dr. Anthony Fauci, Varney interrupted to object. “I’m sorry, Kayleigh, but Dr. Fauci, who is also testifying on Capitol Hill, he just said there should be no large crowds. He said it.”

It was a herculean effort in the face of a dizzying stream of sloganeering by McEnany, which included the amazing sentence "the President is the best authority on this issue."

With McEnany unfazed by the dose of medical reality from one of Trump's own go-to authorities, Varney tried the political reality. "The president goes ahead with holding his rallies, his top doctor, top medical guy, says don’t go with big crowds, I mean, you are immediately going to be hit with this,” he said.

It's an astounding exchange. And iti was all the more impressive for Varney, in Trump-friendly territory, to push so hard. A great Media Win for the FBN host. And a tonic against the madness of today's Media Loser.
MEDIA LOSER:
Rush Limbaugh

On the other hand, Rush Limbaugh today accused the media of being “gleeful” in its coverage of coronavirus, saying the virus is “accomplishing everything” President Donald Trump’s enemies have hoped for.

“Finally something has come along that is accomplishing everything every enemy of Donald Trump, and us, has wanted to accomplish for the last four years," said Limbaugh, flirting with the "hoax" theory that Trump himself, then-chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, and other figures in the Trump world have been toying with and dancing close to for weeks.

"I’m telling you, folks, there’s so many red flags about things happening out there," said Rush. He also bashed the idea of cancellations and limiting large group events, which Trump's own coronavirus task force leaders have endorsed and encouraged, calling it "scary" how many Americans are willing to be "told they can't do this and they can't go there.:"

Earlier this week, Limbaugh said that Democrats and the media want Trump rallies stopped and are using coronavirus nefariously to do so. "It’s not because of public safety, not because of public health," he theorized based only on his own diagnosis.

"And where did it come from? It came from China. And who has been warning us about the ChiComs for longer than anybody else? That would be Donald Trump," said Rush, as if he were reasoning.

The irresponsible segment ran counter to the facts, and opposite assertions and House testimony from  leading government health authorities.

Locked Up

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault. Judge James Burke sentenced Weinstein this morning as the women who testified during his trial were in the room.

A man who threatened Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), telling members of her staff “I’ll put a bullet in her [expletive] skull,” has been sentenced to a year and a day of prison. The phone threat occurred in April 2019.

May I Have Another?

Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions responded to President Donald Trump’s endorsement of his Alabama Senate race opponent by pledging his undying support on Wednesday.

This was in response Trump gave on Monday, calling Sessions' opponent Tommy Tuberville "a REAL LEADER who will never let MAGA/KAG, or our Country, down."

Ouch!

Viral Video

MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing was accosted by a Bernie Sanders supporter demanding she answer for the network’s coverage of a Nazi flag that was unfurled at a rally last week, and her network now says she “felt threatened” by the man and “protected herself.”

Bidding Bidding Bidding

Robotically repeating administration talking points is something people watch for, and criticize, in Fox News Channel programming. So when Fox's Ed Henry asked Biden campaign spokeswoman Kate Bedingfield about the Trump campaign questioning Biden's "fitness" for office, she called it "disgusting smear tactic," prompting a debate.

And prompting, later, a blistering statement from the campaign directed at Ed Henry and Fox for "doing Donald Trump’s bidding."

Congratulations!

Chief White House Correspondent for NBC News Hallie Jackson and producer and reporter for NBC News Frank Thorp welcomed 5 lbs., 9 oz. Monroe Jackson Thorp (“Ro” for short) to the world on Tuesday.

“While we were not expecting the child of two journalists to arrive three-and-a-half weeks ahead of her deadline, Ro clearly saw no need to wait any longer. It just makes us all the more eager to see the world through her big, curious eyes,” said Jackson about the adorably bundle of joy.

Saints and Begorrah

Governor Andrew Cuomo tried (and failed) to do an Irish accent when asked if the coronavirus situation in his state would impact the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade, in a cringe press conference moment earlier today.

Coronavirus

- In a press conference, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic on Wednesday.

- National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director Anthony Fauci urged Americans to take the coronavirus seriously by stressing to the House Oversight Committee that COVID-19 is "10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu."

- Two CBS News employees tested positive for coronavirus, prompting the network to ask NYC staff to work from home.

- The NCAA Tournament will be played without any fans in the venue, the association announced today.

- Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Trevor Noah, Samantha Bee, and John Oliver will all be hosting their shows without live audiences for the time being. Fox's Greg Gutfeld will also forego a live audience in his show.

Must-See Clip of the Day

The Best Words

The Trump campaign has had a lot to say about verbal flubs, gaffes, and other stumbles by Democratic front-runner Joe Biden. But Trump isn't exactly known for his own verbal elegance, as Trevor Noah reminded viewers last night.

The Daily Show put together a brutal montage of the president's own numerous verbal gaffes and public “misspeakings," which they presented as a “Best Words Bracket Edition.”

It's pretty hilarioius. Watch here.
