Don't Delay, Cancer Won't Wait
The impact of COVID-19 on people with cancer is of huge concern particularly as Victoria faces tougher stage four lockdown restrictions. We are concerned that we will see a further reduction in GP visits and participation in cancer screening with delays in diagnosis causing a surge of new and more serious cases over the next year.

Increasing clinical trial opportunities for adolescents and young adults 
Solutions for removing barriers 
Every year in Victoria, around 300 adolescents and young adults (AYA, 15-25 years) are diagnosed with cancer. Approximately 30 Victorian adolescents and young adults die from cancer each year. Now, solutions are in sight to assist young people to access clinical trials. A toolkit is available to clinicians, researchers, clinical trial units and hospital administrators to increase opportunities for AYA patients.

Cancer survivorship for over 4,000 primary care practitioners 
Online learning in the community 
The VCCC's Cancer Survivorship for Primary Care Practitioners program has achieved a major milestone. Since the program began in 2018, more than 4,000 participants have elected to learn more about survivorship through a massive open online (MOOC) course.

Comprehensive Cancer PhD program 
Over 200 cancer-related PhD students from VCCC member organisations participate in the Comprehensive Cancer PhD program, with stronger than ever engagement through the COVID pandemic. The annual Topics in Cancer Seminar Series is attracting three times the usual number of attendees.

When it comes to any form of technology, the end user must be taken into consideration. Shifting a fully programmed symposia from in-person to online delivery is a considerable challenge, but it's a move VCCC alliance members have enthusiastically embraced during the pandemic and audiences have applauded.

Educational webinars build skills to undertake research 
During July, the VCCC Nurse-led Research Hub - a practical and interactive initiative that supports the development of research capacity for nurses - delivered a series of webinars for nurses to understand some of the fundamental skills to undertake research and gain the confidence to progress their ideas.

Caring for the terminally ill in prison
New research highlights the opportunities to improve care for people in prison who are dying from a progressive, life-limiting illness
In an article published in the University of Melbourne's Pursuit last month, research shows that with an increasing and ageing prisoner population, there are now more people who are likely to face their end of life in prison.

2020 'Report Card' on the nation released 
Australia's health 2020 is the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare's 17th biennial report on the health of Australians. It is a mix of short statistical updates and longer discussions exploring topical issues - including cancer. How well are we doing?
