CEO Prof Grant McArthur AO to step down 25 June 2025
Prof Grant McArthur AO will step down as Chief Executive of the VCCC Alliance by December 2025 after almost nine transformative years at the helm.
"The decision by Prof McArthur and the Board to complete his tenure comes at a time when the organisation has achieved a stable financial position," said Board Chair Prof Sanchia Aranda AM.
“Prof McArthur has served the Alliance and the Victorian community as CEO with distinction since April 2017,” Prof Aranda said. “We believe this is the right time and opportunity to appoint a new CEO given the Alliance’s stable financial position, increasing diversification of funding, recent expansion of the Alliance with new Associate Members from regional Victoria, and establishment and funding of the Alliance’s strategic plan,” she said.
Prof McArthur said it had been the highlight of his career to lead the VCCC Alliance and it was now time to hand over the baton. “While it is a challenging time for the health and medical research sector, myself and the Board are confident that a new leader with international recognition in cancer control can lead the Alliance into the future, maximising the impact to ensure better outcomes for all those who experience cancer,” Prof McArthur said.
In 2026, Prof McArthur will be focusing his activities on melanoma and cancer therapeutics research having received an NHMRC Investigator Grant at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and University of Melbourne.
A national and international search for the Alliance’s next CEO will begin shortly, allowing a strategic and orderly transition to the next VCCC Alliance Chief Executive by the end of 2025.
