Lightening the burden of cancer with strong leadership

Imagine if 20 senior cancer clinician researchers stepped outside their organisational roles to work strategically across multiple institutions to identify and tackle the big issues. Could they galvanise efforts across disciplines? Would that make a difference?

This is the reality of the VCCC distributed leadership model and I believe it to be a unique strength of the alliance. With consumers at the heart, it gives structure for us to work across traditional boundaries to focus on the complete cancer pathway.

Distributed Leadership Summit 

The VCCC alliance is making a substantial investment to speed up the pace of the implementation of research evidence into practice in order to improve outcomes for Victorians affected by cancer.

A decade ago, it was reported that it took an average of 17 years to bring implementation research to the clinic. Now, in a world changed by COVID, this lag seems a mighty long time.

Consumer engagement toolkit hits big numbers

Since launching in late 2019, the VCCC consumer engagement web-based toolkit has become a popular resource with a total of 10,000 views to-date. The toolkit assists people to understand and implement consumer engagement processes and practice within their own organisations. 

St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne introduced remuneration for clinical governance committees based on a model demonstrated in the toolkit.

Celebrating world-class, data-driven research program

This month marks three years since Victoria started developing a world-class data-driven research program as part of Melbourne School of Population and Global Health (Centre for Health Policy), the University of Melbourne Centre for Cancer Research (UMCCR), the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Clinical Trials 2021: National Tribute and Award Ceremony

Australian Clinical Trials Alliance (ACTA), together with event partners, will mark the biggest date on the clinical trials calendar, International Clinical Trials Day on Thursday 20 May 2021.

Honour the remarkable Australians who advance our health system by designing, conducting, or participating in ground-breaking clinical trials, and promote the importance of clinical trials and the expertise and complexity of the work involved.

Alongside the ACTA Trial of the Year Award, there will be the ACTA STInG Excellence in Trial Statistics Award and the ACTA Consumer Involvement Award. The ceremony will include announcement of winners and presentations from keynote speakers and will be followed by a networking event, providing an opportunity for interaction between some of Australia's leaders in the clinical trial sector.  Professor Anne Kelso AO, NHMRC CEO will present.
