“By 2021, Victorians will benefit from a future-ready comprehensive cancer centre”– was the undertaking made when the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre launched its three-year Strategic Research Plan in 2017. As we reach the completion of the plan, it is appropriate that that the theme for our Annual Report 2019-20 is Future Ready.
On behalf of the VCCC Board of Directors, I am delighted to share this report with you. It outlines how the VCCC alliance has applied and utilised strategic collaboration to maximise Victoria’s leadership in providing world-leading cancer research, education and clinical care.
The alliance has made real headway over the past few years - and particularly the last 12 months. An independent External Review commissioned by the Department of Health and Human Services in October 2019, concluded: ‘’the VCCC is on track to become one of the preeminent population-based cancer systems in the world”.
This gives us great confidence about our potential to substantively improve outcomes for patients with cancer in Victoria in the years ahead.
We are optimistic about what lies ahead for the VCCC alliance as an agent for consumer-informed and evidence-based system level innovation and integration in cancer control.
Thank you for your interest in this work as we strive to overcome cancer together.
