Pancake Feed at VFW tonight The Rotary Club Pancake Feed will be held tonight (Monday, Jan. 22) from 5-7 p.m. at the VFW. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 6 to 16. Children under 6 are free. Tickets are still available from VCSU Rotarians Maggie Heinle, Dave DeMuth and Tammy Katuin, as well as at the door. Jan. 25 reception to honor Egeberg The VCSU Student Affairs Division will host a reception for Pat Egeberg, former Student Health Services director, on Friday, Jan. 25, from 2-4 p.m. in the Student Center upper lounge. Pat retired Dec. 31, 2018, after nearly 27 years of service to VCSU. A short program recognizing Pat’s contributions will be presented at 3 p.m. VCSU opera ensemble presents ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors’ Music, mystery, mischief, and miracles combine in VCSU Opera Ensemble's production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s one-act, family friendly opera, “Amahl and the Night Visitors”—a tale of a disabled shepherd boy Amahl, his mother, and their miraculous, life-changing encounter with the three kings. The opera will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 26, at 3:00 p.m., at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City. The production, open to the public free of charge, is under the direction of Robin Allebach, instructor of music. The cast includes Kimberly McLagan (West Fargo, N.D.) as Amahl; Abigail Ingstad (Valley City, N.D.) as Mother, Marlen “Mikey” Meester (Valley City) as King Kaspar; William Egan (Enderlin, N.D.) as King Melchior; Joseph Munowenyu III (Valley City) as King Balthazar; Makayla Woitzel (West Fargo, N.D.) as the Page; Catherine Murphy (Grand Forks, N.D.) as Katherine; Riley Loeks (LaMoure, N.D.) as Dorothy; Rebekah Jordan (Valley City) as Josephine; Elizabeth Gazeley (Valley City) as Evangeline; Brady Matheny (Michigan, N.D.) as the guard. Also featured are Daniel Becker (faculty), Kayla Brademeyer (Kindred, N.D.), Cheyenne Claeys (Oakes, N.D.), Jerrold Heide (faculty), Kenneth Jimenez (faculty), Jaden LeTellier (Valley City), Devin Poitra (Rolla, N.D.), and Rydel Samuelson (Mandan, N.D.), with special appearances by Erin, Della, and Claire Heide (Valley City), and Jack Sorby (Valley City).
Viking sports update Women’s Basketball Friday: VCSU 75, Dickinson State 63 Saturday: VCSU 85, Presentation College 70 The Viking women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with victories at Dickinson State and Presentation College this weekend. VCSU is now 9-9 overall and 6-1 in the North Star Athletic Association. VCSU leads the NSAA standings after the first round of conference play. Men’s Basketball Friday: VCSU 84, Dickinson State 77 Saturday: Presentation College 82, VCSU 79 The VCSU men’s basketball team split a pair of road games, picking up a victory at Dickinson State on Friday. VCSU is now 5-13 overall and 2-5 in the NSAA. Of the Vikings’ five conference losses, four have come by three points or fewer. Track & Field The VCSU track and field team totaled 11 Top 5 finishes this weekend as the Vikings competed at meets in Brookings, S.D., and Moorhead, Minn.
