Da Vinha to present foreign-policy lecture at museum Thursday Luis da Vinha, Ph.D., associate professor, will present “Approaches to Presidential Foreign Policy-Making in the 21st Century” at the Barnes County Museum on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. Anthony Dutton, Ph.D., associate professor, will also lend comments to the presentation. Part of season 20 of the Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series, the event is open to the public free of charge. Museum to feature ‘Women Behind the Plow’ exhibit through June 24 The Barnes County Museum is hosting “Women Behind the Plow’ exhibit through June 24. Put together by the Tri-County Tourism Alliance of Logan, McIntosh and Emmons counties, the exhibit features a historic preservation project honoring the unrecognized contributions of women who grew up up or raised their families on farms in theGerman-Russian country of North Dakota. The exhibit features 17 panels with photos and reminiscences from interviews collected with assistance from a State Historical Society of North Dakota grant. The Barnes County Historical Society Museum, located at 315 Central Avenue North in Valley City, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. The museum is open to the d.public free of charge; volunteers and financial contributions are welcomed. Russi directs lighting for dance concert Jenni Lou Russi, associate professor of communication arts, served as lighting director for “A Tale of Time,” a dance concert held in Vangstad Auditorium May 10-11 and will do the same for their student matinee in Vangstad on May 20. Russi has designed lights and sound for the annual dance concert since they began performing in Vangstad Auditorium in 2015. Student employees recognized Katie Gehrig, student assistant for the Science Department, was named Student Employee of the Month for March 2019. Katie helps provide a conducive learning environment in the science lab, has a go-getter attitude, and strives to provide quality work for the department. Titus Gruanue (far right in photo), Facilities Services, was named Student Employee of the Month for April 2019. Titus is committed to maintaining McFarland First Floor with exemplary attention to detail. He takes initiative while working independently. Congratulations, Titus! Viking sports update Softball The Valley City State softball team begins its national tournament run today at the NAIA National Championship Opening Round in Columbia, Mo. VCSU is the No. 1 seed for the four-team bracket and will play No. 4 seed Madonna (Mich.) today at 1:30 p.m. Local radio coverage can be found on KOVC 1490 AM/96.3 FM. VCSU’s conference champions include: Alex Otto (high jump), Dylan Olson (3,000 steeplechase), Kyle Odegard (javelin), Bryeann Robertson (shot put) and Grace Miller (10,000 meters, 5,000 meters). Eight different Vikings have qualified to compete at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, May 23-25 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
