The VCSU Hotline! online newsletter is published every week during the school year. Deadline to submit articles (photos encouraged) is 3 p.m. the Friday before publication. Learn ‘All About Numbers’ on Sept. 11 Joe Jangula will present “All About Numbers,” a 45-minute presentation involving math tricks, in Rhoades 102 on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m.
Cass-Clay Creamery in Fargo is sponsoring the presentation by Jangula, a retired farmer from Marion, N.D. The event is open to the public free of charge, and participants who volunteer during the session may win prizes.
You can read about a similar presentation Jangula gave at Jamestown High School last spring at www.jamestownsun.com/news/4613612-math-tricks-joe-jangula. Whitney receives prize in international art exhibition Linda Whitney, professor emerita of art, won the Prize for Originality and for Breaking Classical Boundaries at the Fifth International Mezzotint Festival held in Ekaterinburg, Russia, beginning Aug. 16. Her prize was one of four major awards presented, which also included Grand Prize, Prize for Full Correspondence of Technique and Imagery, and Prize for Adhering to the Traditions and Skills of Graphical Work. The award comes with an invitation for a solo exhibition of her mezzotints during the 6th International Mezzotint Festival in 2021.
About 1,000 mezzotints created by 113 artists from 31 countries were installed at three venues, and 19 workshops were held as part of a printing marathon.
The Open Competition category included 356 works. Whitney entered seven mezzotints, and all seven, including “Red Fancy Shawl Dancer” (pictured), were accepted for the exhibition. Whitney spent close to two weeks in Russia; a fellowship she received from the U.S. State Department helped defray travel expenses. Pritchert receives 'Difference Maker' award Marcia Pritchert, director for financial aid, recently received the "Difference Maker" award. She was nominated by the Business office and Employee Services.
Her nomination read, “Marcia is a Difference Maker every day. She puts in 110% for her office and takes the time to help any student or parent fully understand their financial aid package. The Business office is grateful for how closely we work together to make sure the students aren’t stressed by the cost of coming to school. The HR/Payroll Office appreciates how well she works with them especially with the VCSU work study student employees. Marcia is hard-working, courteous and honest. She is truly an asset to the Viking family!”
