The city's crackdown on unlicensed vendors on Bourbon Street continues, with some peddlers being threatened with jail time for offering their wares on the city's main tourist drag. Judges are issuing orders at the request of the City Attorney's Office saying vendors could spend up to five months in jail if they don't stay out of the French Quarter. Sophie Kasakove has the story. Gov. Jeff Landry was speaking at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux Wednesday morning and described the New Orleans Police Department as being “in shambles,” and he pushed for a permanent Louisiana State Police presence in the city. John Simerman has this report. A transition committee led by one of the Republican Party’s biggest donors wants to remove dozens of provisions from the state constitution that protect public spending, such as one preventing cuts in K-12 school funding. The Constitutional Reform Policy Council, chaired by megadonor Lane Grigsby, a Baton Rouge business owner, says the changes are needed to pare the document back to its original intent and give more flexibility to legislators.
