#1 Verizon Sheds 13,000 Fios TV Subscribers in Q1
Verizon reported Thursday that its FiOS video service lost 13,000 net pay TV subscribers in the first quarter, compared with the 36,000 net additions in the year-ago period and 21,000 in the last quarter.
WHY THIS MATTERS: This is the second FiOS pay TV subscriber loss posted by the company in any quarter since its launch in 2006. Verizon ended the quarter with 4.68 million TV subscribers. Meanwhile, the company added 35,000 Fios Internet subs, extending that total to 5.68 million.

#2 Live OTT Viewing Expected to Eclipse Broadcast TV in Five Years: Survey
According to a new survey by Level 3 Communications, Streaming Media and Unisphere Research, viewing hours of live OTT video is expected to overtake traditional broadcast TV. The 2017 edition of the annual OTT Video Services, based on answers from 486 media industry professionals, found that nearly 70% believe that OTT will cross that threshold no later than 2022.
WHY THIS MATTERS: The study also asked about the technical challenges faced by live-linear OTT services. The most popular response, at 26.8%, was quality of service/quality of experience, followed by local ad insertion (14.5%), content security (13.3%) and network DVR/catch-up services (10.3%).

#3 Report: Hulus Live TV Service To Launch by Mid-May
According to a report from Tech Crunch, Hulus highly anticipated live TV service will launch by mid-May. The commercial debut of Hulus virtual MVPD service is already a bit behind schedule, as it was originally expected to launch sometime in the first quarter of 2017.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Although Hulu hasnt announced pricing yet, reports have pegged it at $40 per month. The service will include linear feeds for a number of broadcast channels, cloud DVR and full access to the on-demand library (including Hulu originals) that comes with a typical $8-per-month Hulu subscription.
