What a fantastic opening day to Formula 1 2021 ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, with series dominators Mercedes being seriously challenged by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen – and McLaren and Ferrari weren’t far away either!
After the last few years, even the most devout Mercedes fan would welcome some closer opposition for the sake of the sport, and that’s what we saw today. Verstappen’s pace was no surprise, a reflection of what we saw in testing, but McLaren and Ferrari also looked to be in the ballpark, with AlphaTauri leading the midfield charge.
A slow start for Aston Martin and Alpine, so plenty of room for improvement there, while Williams versus Haas should mean there’s battling from the sharp end of the grid to the rear. I haven’t been this excited about an F1 season for years! |
