Happy Winter Solstice!

I think Mother Nature has a warped way of celebrating Winter Solstice. She picked the absolute worst time to throw a winter bomb cyclone at much of the U.S. As you will soon see all over national and local news, travel tomorrow and Friday is going to be a doozy.

Of course, after my wife was still sick last week, I rescheduled our flight to Toronto (via Philadelphia) for this Friday but because of Mother Nature's party, I canceled it. I scrambled to find tickets yesterday and surprisingly, American Airlines had inexpensive last minute mileage tickets available for LAX-PHL-YYZ for 13,000 miles for today. But my wife's sinus infection isn't completely better so we're now staying home in unseasonably warm L.A. (it's going to be close to 80F on Christmas!)

We will miss being with family and having a white Christmas but I won't miss the freezing temperatures. As @JenCarfagno from the Weather Channel tweeted this morning, "The snow is one problem, but the extreme wind and cold will be the most widespread problem with this #winterstorm."

Some good news: Although today's the shortest day of the year that means starting tomorrow, the days will get longer each day. Yay!

TSA officers screened 2,199,432 people at airport checkpoints nationwide yesterday, December 21. Three years ago on the same day (pre-pandemic): 1,981,433.

✈️ Miles & Points

Are you traveling this holiday season? We know everyone has different lifestyles and preferred travel methods. So to help you find what works best for you, we've rounded up some of our top posts to fit your needs.

For those who are flying, here are the top credit cards for the four big U.S. airlines:

With the right miles credit card, you can get priority boarding, free checked luggage for you (and usually your companions), and lounge access. Similarly, hotel credit cards can earn you free nights, late checkout, and more. And having a card that won't charge foreign transaction fees can save you money if you travel internationally.

If you're hitting the road, having a card that earns rewards on gas station purchases is a plus. Many of these cards are also some of the best for road trips, thanks to their flexibility when earning points, miles, or cash back. Speaking of cash rewards, many cash back options can complement your trip. Another helpful perk is travel insurance, which several cards in the above articles contain.

Whether you're traveling across the country or across town, there are several options to help you get more from your purchases. Wherever you're going, we wish you safe travels and happy memories.
