Here's the problem... The investing advice you get on the Internet is usually around a specific investment. Some hot stock, crypto, or NFT.

However, it's diversifying (by investing in lots of non-correlated assets) that can protect you from all the highs and lows of the market.

This goes double for crypto investors, where diversification is hardly ever mentioned even though it's one of the best strategies to protect yourself against the manic mood swings of the market.

State of L1s Q1 2023 (Messari)

Data driven decisions are known to help improve outcomes, making it more likely that you'll meet your goals, solve problems, avoid errors, and be more efficient. Today's "Must Read" is all about the data.

This report from Messari aggregates and compares the financial, network, and ecosystem analyses of 14 Layer-1 (L1) smart contract platforms including links to the individual quarterly reports for each of the platforms.

Not surprisingly, Ethereum remained the leader in most key financial and ecosystem metrics. There were some surprises however, like Stacks' benefit from bitcoin ordinals, and Tron's benefit from USDT increasing its dominance in the stablecoin space.

The data also reveals the extent of the rebound for L1 crypto platforms in the first quarter of 2023 in terms of financials, while also bringing to light the lack of growth in transaction activity.

The report goes on to look at stablecoins, DeFi, NFTs, network metrics, staking, and developer activity. There's plenty to unpack and chew on throughout this report.

Investor takeaway: Even though crypto prices are up in Q1, network activity has stayed about the same. For long-term ETH investors, Ethereum still remains the dominant L1 and our top pick.
