Last Month at Kentucky Science Center
Each year since 1991, Coral Ridge Elementary has brought their entire school to Kentucky Science Center on Halloween, a tradition we each look forward to all year! While this year was a little different, we were able to virtually host Coral Ridge to continue this yearly tradition. Learn more about our Digital Learning Programs for schools.

This year for Halloween, we went live on Facebook to show off some of our spookiest items from our collections department. If you missed these videos, you can check them out here

We hosted 300 for 300 in our Riverview Room rental space for writing classes, Saturday Salon sessions, and film screenings. In the first three sessions, participants wrote and shared, and practiced yoga (there will be a total of eight sessions completed by the end of November). Learn more about the great work 300 for 300 is doing to empower girls of color in Louisville.

Kentucky Science Center superheroes Captain Current and Ion Jones have hit the road. Each superhero hosted outdoor demonstrations for their socially distanced fans! Book your own superhero, available as an in-person assembly program or a live, virtual program.

Science in the News
Check out some of our favorite science happenings!

New research shows that most spiders are able to hear using specialized organs on their legs. Ogre-faced spiders actually catch insects out of the air using sound instead of sight (only low frequencies trigger an attack).

Around 240 million years ago, large reptiles called nothosaurs ruled the seas. Now researchers have found fossils of a type of mini nothosaur that may have lurked on the shallow seafloor, floating motionless until unsuspecting prey got too close.

After years of work, MSD has completed the final breakthrough of the Louisville Waterway Protection Tunnel. This tunnel will reduce combined sewer overflows and eliminate sanitary sewer overflows by 2024. To see the work in action, check out this video and stop by our MSD Waterway Protection Tunnel exhibit on the 2nd floor on your next visit.
