Why Argentina Is Saying, “Viva La Bitcoin Revolution!”
By Samantha Messing

“If you offered me all the Bitcoin in the world for $25, I wouldn’t take it.” — Warren Buffett

It is clear that Buffett has totally lost all reference to economic struggle. All of his fortune is invested and denominated in the world’s reserve currency, the U.S. dollar, which is also losing purchasing power, but not as alarmingly quickly as other fiat currencies.

The peso argentino is one of the most devalued currencies of the modern era. If you had a million pesos in 1970, this is what would have happened to your savings over time:

  • The peso ley replaces the previous peso at a rate of 1:100. You now have 10K pesos.
  • Then in 1983, the peso argentino replaces the peso ley at 1:10K. You now have 1 peso.
  • Just two years later, 1:1K — 0.001 peso.
  • Ten years later, 1:10K — 0.0000001 peso.

Argentines know about economic struggle and monetary policy failure. They know that Bitcoin is the only money that politicians cannot destroy. For them it is not an “investment,” it is a life saver. That is why Buffett won't buy bitcoin while Argentines are increasingly using it as an alternative to their shitcoin national currency.

The island is not only a paradise and a hidden gem of a surf spot, it is also a great spot for Bitcoin tourists. Cloud 21 Siargao set out to assist local small businesses in learning how they can accept bitcoin as payments to drive further growth in tourism while protecting themselves against inflation at the same time.
