Hi John,
Tomorrow is World Press Freedom Day, and all of us here at KQED feel grateful to be part of such a robust public media resource.
A free press allows us to hold those in power accountable. The constitutional right to investigate, question and share information without reprimand is vital to a healthy democracy and to a functioning society writ large.
And local journalism is an essential part of that practice. KQED journalists highlight stories in the Bay Area that might not get national attention, and our programs connect our region by uplifting our communities’ diverse experiences and perspectives.
As a Northern Californian, I believe it’s my duty to protect and defend freedom of the press. I invite you to join me in supporting this cause by donating to KQED in honor of World Press Freedom Day. All gifts made by tomorrow’s deadline will be matched, up to $50,000, by Craig Newmark Philanthropies! |
