Hi John,
This week was one for the books!
On Monday morning I welcomed our 18th Ziglar Legacy Certification class.
A few hours later, I was on a plane to the potato capital of the world, Boise Idaho!
There, I spoke for ZLC’r Joe Morton and the group he loves, the NAIFA of Idaho.
On my way home, I experienced an unexpected turn of events...my flight to Dallas was delayed FIVE HOURS!
And I immediately remembered what dad would say when his flight was cancelled…
“FANTASTIC!”
The bewildered gate agent (and everyone else around her) wondered why he would respond that way.
Now she and the others in line thought Dad had snapped. She wasn't done with the master of motivation so she added:
"And that flight is not guaranteed to take off right away. It could be delayed further."
Once again Dad responded, "FANTASTIC!"
By now the attendant had had it so she said, 'Didn't you hear me? Don't you understand what I told you?"
Dad very calmly responded with dignity and very politely:
"I heard every word you said. The flight is delayed. Next one will be at least 7 hours and that could be delayed also."
Then she jumped in and said, "Why are you so happy about it?"
Dad responded, "I am not happy about it ma’am, but as best as I can figure that flight is being delayed for one of two reasons:
1) Something is wrong with the plane or
2) Something is wrong with the weather
In either case, I would rather be down here than up there. Besides you have a beautiful airport, and I have my paperwork with me.
You have phones nearby (this was pre cell phone era) and a magnificent restaurant.
I have to be across country for a seminar, that can be postponed. I'll be just fine. Thank you!"
How many of you would respond that way if your plane was delayed, a sale falls out, you get verbally attacked by a irate customer or cut off in traffic? Always keep an excellent attitude no matter what.
After reminiscing on my father’s positive attitude, I too decided to adopt his attitude. I took out my computer and began to work on a new presentation, one that I will present at the Zig Ziglar Experience in Houston, Texas, July 27th-28th.
