EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

An opportunity to change lifelong healthcare for First Nations people

This NAIDOC week I am very pleased to join our Senior Executive and the Independent Directors of the VCCC Alliance to publicly support the ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming national referendum to establish an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.

We celebrate and continue to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led decision-making in cancer control. Despite considerable progress in improving national cancer outcomes, we are acutely aware the gap in cancer-related mortality between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians is widening.

We believe that recognising self-determination and an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament will catalyse broader change that will contribute to improved cancer treatment, care, and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

VACCHO launches Aboriginal Cancer Journey Strategy

We are proud to sign an MoU with VACCHO and support the implementation of the Victorian Aboriginal Cancer Journey Strategy. Together, we'll strive for more equitable cancer treatment, care and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Victoria.

Beyond the Form: engaging participants throughout clinical research

Care-related discussions routinely occur between researchers and participants during research projects, but the VCCC Alliance and CT:IQ are exploring opportunities for broader communication and engagement with research participants in the Beyond the Form project.

If you work in health and medical research in Australia, we want to hear your thoughts on communicating with participants during research projects. This could be exploring ongoing communication strategies that you have used, or suggestions you may have for other researchers in the future.
