Celebrity Series at Home

April 7: Sandeep Das, Davóne Tines, David Sedaris, and more!

Sandeep Das

Dear John,

Save the date for our next Celebrity Series at Home concert with tabla virtuoso Sandeep Das on Saturday, April 11 at 12 PM ET. A Grammy award-winner with Silkroad and a Guggenheim Foundation Fellow, Sandeep is hailed as one of the world's top tabla maestros.

We will be broadcasting simultaneously on Facebook and YouTube. RSVP on Facebook or subscribe to our YouTube channel to set a reminder!

This week we are sharing a special message to Celebrity Series audiences from bass-baritone Davóne Tines, a look at David Sedaris’ failed efforts at hoarding, and a moving moment of peace with Evgeny Kissin and Renée Fleming.

Let us know where you are finding inspiration using #CelebritySeriesAtHome on social media and tag us @celebrityseries.

Davóne Tines

Davóne Tines' message to Celebrity Series

Bass-baritone Davóne Tines was scheduled to perform on our Debut Series last week. Davóne has a strong connection to the Boston community and recorded a special message just for the Celebrity Series audience! Watch him perform an excerpt from the Libera Me from Fauré’s Requiem.

David Sedaris

David Sedaris

David Sedaris is not a good crisis shopper. For some comedic relief during these difficult times, read his recent New Yorker article in which he confesses his inadequate hoarding skills.

Evgeny Kissin and Renée Fleming

Renée Fleming and Evgeny Kissin - Ave Maria

Despite the cancellation of their tour, Evgeny Kissin and Renée Fleming found a way to perform together. Recorded on their phones in Prague and Virginia respectively, watch their beautiful performance of Schubert’s iconic "Ave Maria."

Mike Block

Last week we kicked off our digital concert series, “Celebrity Series at Home.” Multi-style cellist Mike Block performed on Facebook Live and included the original song he premiered for our Boston Tribute to Pablo Casals last October. View it on-demand now (no Facebook account required).

Thank you

Shine Gala

Our annual SHINE! Gala is one of the most important nights of the Celebrity Series season. Designed by our longtime partner Rafanelli Events Management, SHINE! is our moment to celebrate Celebrity Series’ impact on our community in style, and raise vital support to ensure that the Series continues to lead the effort to promote live performance throughout Boston. We were disappointed not to gather as planned at the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 4, but hope that you join us in raising a glass to Celebrity Series from the comfort of your own home.

We would like to offer a special thank you to co-chairs Susan & Michael Thonis and Kathleen & Chris Gaffney for their dedication to making this year’s SHINE! Gala a fun and successful event, and to all of our generous gala supporters and vendors for their commitment to Celebrity Series through this difficult time. Visit celebrityseries.org/gala to view our list of generous gala sponsors.

Davóne Tines' engagement was part of the 2019-20 Debut Series, sponsored by Harriet & David Griesinger and the Longy School of Music of Bard College. This engagement was also made possible in part by support from Celebrity Series LIVE PERFORMANCE! Arts for All Innovation Funds.

Renée Fleming & Evgeny Kissin's engagement was sponsored by Eleanor & Frank Pao. This engagement was also made possible in part by support from Celebrity Series LIVE PERFORMANCE! Arts for All Endowment Funds, with additional support provided by Peter J. Wender.

THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS

Celebrity Series of Boston is grateful to our 2019-20 season sponsors Amy & Joshua Boger, and to the many individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies whose support helps fulfill our mission to present performing artists who inspire and enrich our community and our vision of a community of Greater Boston where the performing arts are a valued, lifelong, shared experience - on stages, on streets, in neighborhoods - everywhere.
