Across the country, state lawmakers are passing laws that make it harder to vote—particularly for Black, Brown, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities. In response, Congress has reintroduced the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. If enacted, this legislation would restore and strengthen our voting rights. Free and equal access to the ballot is a constitutional right, and foundational to a functioning democracy.
