U. of Maryland reverses decision, fires Durkin

Pressure from student organizations, faculty and campus leadership led University of Maryland President Wallace Loh to fire head football coach DJ Durkin on Wednesday, one day after Durkin's reinstatement by the board of regents. Durkin, who was placed on leave in August after a player died, reportedly was surprised by the firing.

General Motors has notified approximately 18,000 salaried employees that it is offering voluntary buyouts to employees with at least 12 years of experience or it may need to implement layoffs. The company, however, is continuing to hire for development of self-driving and electric cars.

Wages rising at fast rate, Labor Dept. says
The employment-cost index rose 0.8% in the third quarter, with the index unchanged from last year at 2.8%, a 10-year high, according to the Labor Department. Private-sector wages and salaries rose 3.1% in the 12 months ending in September, topping 3% for the first time in a decade.

Facebook to move Workplace to new domain
Workplace by Facebook will move to its own domain in 2019 after customers were concerned about security of the tool being hosted on the Facebook domain. Facebook plans to introduce new users to the domain and to slowly migrate current users over at the customers' pace.
