Dear reader,
Rosedale is home to some of Toronto’s most influential people: Geddy Lee, Heather Reisman, Kevin O’Leary and a bunch of other public-facing aristocrats. It’s also surprisingly accessible to the rest of us.
Walking through Rosedale became a ritual when I was in university. I was living in a Cabbagetown basement while working at a coffee shop near Yonge and St. Clair. My contempt for the TTC meant a 45-minute hike northwest through one of the city’s richest zip codes—and I loved it. The streets were winding, the architecture stunning and the trees lush. My favourite way in was via the Glen Road bridge, which spans Rosedale Valley, connecting the neighbourhood to Sherbourne station.
Today, you’ll notice that many of the old red-bricks are modernizing with the times. Curb Appeal’s top post this week is a fine example: a $6-million Victorian updated with contemporary flourishes including fingerprint access and a smart-home system that automates the lights and blinds.
