It's poll time.

It's Tuesday. Time for a poll. This thought came via a reader…That the major food trend for the last half century is: “not the growth of Walmart; nor the consolidation of Kroger under Dave Dillon (and now maybe Rodney McMullen if the Albertsons deals succeeds); nor the rise of the warehouse clubs; nor the failure of the European hypermarket to penetrate our culture.

I might make a case that the major trend is the rise of natural foods, or the growth of specialty or gourmet foods, or the integration of both into the supermarket business best exemplified by the pre-Amazon Whole Foods of John Mackey."

So we ask you: what IS the major / most important food trend of the last 50 years?

  • The rise of natural + organic
  • Local + farm to table
  • Plant-based + vegan
  • Other, tell us in the comments
