These meetings are called Parent Voice Meetings in the hope that parents will share their knowledge of their child with the teachers. The teachers will use what you say as good background for developing the learning relationship with your child. The parents do the talking and the teachers will listen and take in key information. To help with this, here are some prompt questions, if required - click here. Scholastic Book Orders The latest Scholastic brochure is now available from classrooms.
If you wish to place an order, please follow the directions on the inside back page using 'Option 1 Credit Card'. If your order is a GIFT, please select GIFT Option, otherwise all orders are handed out to students.
Orders will close at 3pm on Wednesday 25th March. NO CASH ORDERS ARE ACCEPTED. Ice Skating This Week The rink is here and classes have started with the children having fun whilst learning basic skills. The cost for these lessons is being taken from the activity fee - please ensure that you have made payment.
Thanks goes out to the parents who helped set up last night and a further call goes out to parents to help on Sunday 15th March at 5pm to dismantle it (will take roughly 50 mins).
Don't forget, the rink is open to the public for after school sessions, there's a disco on Friday evening and open 10am-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday as well. Senior Athletics What a beautiful day we had for the senior school athletics last Thursday! We were proud of our year 4-6 students as all our school values were on display as they participated in their running, jumping and throwing events. Thank you to the PTA, our staff and parent volunteers who helped provide a great event for the children to participate.
Please join us for a prize-giving assembly next Tuesday 17th March at 10.15am, where place-getters and special awards will be presented.
All parents of children who have qualified to represent the school at the Upper Clutha event will be contacted by email, by the end of the week.
Here is a lovely pic of our year 5 girls limbering up with a 'shoulder massage chain' whilst waiting for their turn in the long jump!

School Activity Fee 2020 Annual School Activity Fee The annual activity fee is $40.00 per child for 2020. This is a compulsory fee which covers extra-curricular costs, such as those incurred by bringing visiting performers/specialists to Wānaka, for example, sports coaching, dance/music/drama performances and special events. Collecting this annual fee avoids the time-consuming exercise of collecting 600 plus entry fees each time there is a performance or activity. Please make your payment as soon as possible, as we have already enjoyed performances and we have ice skating this week and the Royal Jelly Show next week.
Payments can be made by: - Direct credit to Wānaka Primary School - account 02-0673-0023784-001
- Eftpos - available at the school office
- Cheque - please make payable to Wānaka Primary School
- Cash - please ensure you provide your child's name and room number with payment.

Head Lice Head Lice are an (unwelcome) part of life and are easily spread between people, particularly children. The key to managing head lice is early detection - look through your child's hair on a regular basis - nominate a certain night of the week so it becomes routine.
Use your fingers or a head lice comb, and look for little brown insects on the scalp. The eggs are almost invisible before they hatch, so by the time you spot the little white eggs on the hair shaft they have already hatched. Do not treat your child unless you see live lice.
The best treatment is thorough combing with a head lice comb and lots of conditioner in the hair. This should be done every 2nd day for 10 days. If you choose to use a head lice shampoo, you should still do the wet combing as described above. Shampoos do not kill eggs, and do not always kill all the live lice.

WTR Volunteers Required – You say Bacon, I say Baking… Actually we say both! These pre-event roles still need to be filled and only take about one hour of your time at home. Please if you can help, sign up today via the website. Role: Cooker of Bacon Date: Friday 27th March Task: Lightly cook 5 kg of bacon (containers and bacon provided) How this helps: This takes the pressure off the chief chefs in the catering tent and satisfies hungry riders who pay for a scrumptious lunch as part of their pre-registration. Role: Cooker of Baking Date: Week commencing Monday 16th March Task: Bake a batch of biscuits, savoury snacks, or a cake. Deliver to Montessori by noon on Friday 27th March. How this helps: The baking helps to keep the volunteers in a good mood. Especially the marshals who will have been on site since 5.30am.
For more info on this and all other roles check out the Wanaka Trail Ride website. Alternatively speak to parents Gillian White and Rachel Allibone or have a chat with Lucy in the office. We’d love to have you join us for the ride! |

Cellists of Otago Concert featuring Soprano Rebecca Ryan Sunday 29th March - 3pm - Lake Wanaka Centre The popular Cellists of Otago, featuring internationally acclaimed Soprano Rebecca Ryan will perform songs such as Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise and one of the most popular works for cello ensemble and soprano, Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasilieras No. 5.
Based in Dunedin, the cello ensemble, directed by Heleen du Plessis, comprises University of Otago students, Dunedin Symphony Orchestra cellists, high school pupils and community cellists. Soprano Rebecca Ryan first came to international prominence when she gave the UK première of the newly rediscovered Gloria by Handel at London’s Royal Academy of Music and can be listened to on https://soundcloud.com/user-775266370/sets/rebecca-ryan-web. We are sure these musicians will once again attract a large audience. The sound of an ensemble of cellos is amazing, and even more so when joined by a wonderful soprano!
