CURRICULUM COMMENT

At Level Two Again This Week

Thanks to everyone for using the Pick Up and Drop Off areas correctly.  We hope many of you will continue to drop off once we get to Level One as this reduces traffic issues and our students are being great self-managers as they get themselves ready for learning in the classroom.  We will continue with our current protocols - good hand washing and sanitising, cleaning of high touch spaces and physical distancing as much as possible.  As I look out my office window I can see children playing on the pirate ship and managing to keep this space - I even saw an arm go out to measure the space between two students...aren't Wānaka Primary School students awesome 🤗!   Later this week I am expecting an update from the Ministry of Education, I will let you know any outcomes from this.

Community / Staff / Student Surveys

The Board of Trustees and leadership team are sending out an NZCER (NZ Council of Education Research) survey which asks staff, students and parents in the community to reflect on how well the school supports students and their learning. The surveys consider presence (inclusiveness within learning and leadership), participation (curriculum for all, social relationships for learners) and learning (inclusive classroom cultures, valuing the achievement of all learners).  All of these attributes are in the foundations of our NPDL (New Pedagogies for Deep Learning) and PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) initiatives.

We would love as many parents to take part as possible. The survey link will be sent out in the week beginning 15th June and will close at the end of term. Staff and students will also complete their surveys during this 2-3 weeks. The data is analysed digitally and will be used to assess our strengths and inform our next steps. Using this report we then complete a School Review Profile which allows us to review whole school data and the data from the 3 groups of participants.

Reporting on Students' Progress

In next week's newsletter we will share with you the timeline for our mid year reporting to parents. This process will include a new written report to parents (with a general comment as well as literacy achievement levels), students sharing evidence of progress with parents (as we did at the end of last year, but with more time to allay the congestion we had) and a follow-up interview a week later with the teacher (if required by either the teacher or parent).  We are currently working on a more detailed plan of how these 3 modes of reporting will look.
