Welcome to Jo I have been very remiss in officially welcoming Jo Murphy who has joined our wonderful office team. Welcome Jo. Jo has taken over the newsletter production role but still insists on my brevity...just like Lucy! Jo has slotted into our office team so well and she is excited to meet you all. Please Drop Children at School by 8.50am We have been impressed with how smoothly drop off and pick up has been and we hope this continues as it has been so successful. Just a reminder that now you are all experts at the before school 'kiss and drop' routine, we would appreciate children being dropped off no later than 8.50am. Children can then get themselves to their pod, unpack their bags and be ready for the day in time for the 9am bell. SKI and EOTC Options We are currently arranging our SKI and EOTC programme and sent a survey to parents last week as we need to know numbers of who is skiing and who is at school. If you have not responded to the survey please click here to do so. Our EOTC programmes are all school based this year and we will sort out options with children and year groups once we have final numbers. At this stage we are aiming for no cost to parents for the majority of the school based programme. Support Staff Day Tomorrow Tomorrow is Support Staff Day and we are acknowledging the great work of our Office Staff (Lucy, Katrina, Melissa, Karon and Jo), Teacher Aides (Teresa, Debbie, Ella, Karen, Katherine and Leisha), Melissa our Librarian, John our Caretaker and Glenda our top notch Cleaner and relieving Caretaker. They are amazing people who work so hard and are very committed to our students and staff. Thank you for all you do. If your child works with a TA or you would like to acknowledge our support staff, make sure you send them a message via your child (a card made by a special little person is always a hit). Surveys as part of our Self-Review Process for 2020 Next week you will be emailed a Community Survey, we would appreciate you completing this, as a high response rate gives us more reliable data. Staff and students will also fill in a survey. It will not take long and the data gathered will help complete our school profile which enables us to set next steps for our school. The Board will use the data for future direction in our strategic plan for this year and into 2021. The results from the surveys will be shared with you. Assemblies Assemblies, until the end of this term, will be pod based and digital. Pod emails will notify you of the dates, times and how to access. We will return to full 'live' assemblies next term. These are noted on the website calendar and we have ensured all pods are presenting over the last 2 terms. Ezra's Dance Programme is Returning Week 1 Term 3 All pods will be involved with this dance programme and children will learn 2-3 dances over the week with a dance presentation planned for parents to enjoy on Friday 24th July - mark this date in your diaries as these performances are worth watching. More information will be sent out nearer the time. Reporting to Parents Will Happen Early Next Term Based on the feedback from parents, students and teachers at the end of last year, we have further progressed and refined our reporting process. This will reflect our Deep Learning philosophy around students providing evidence of their learning, active parent involvement, teacher/parent interaction and the provision of a written report.
The reporting to parents process is as follows: - We will send home written reports digitally via the Parent Portal on Edge (our student management system). This will happen onFriday 31st July which is the end of week two next term. We have included a general comment and a more formalised design to the written report based on last year's feedback.
- Students sharing evidence of their learning and progress with their parents will happen on Tuesday 4th August. Parents will come into the pod and children will share their learning with them. Parents will be given a talking strip or guiding questions to support this process. Parents can go in to classes at any time between 11.00-12.30pm, or 1.30-3.00pm, or 4.30-6.30pm. This will allow more flexibility for parents and less people in one place at one time. Parents should allow 20-30 minutes per child for this. Please mark this date on your calendar. If this day is not possible for any reason please make other arrangements with your child's teacher.
- Parents are invited to book an interview slot with their child's teacher. Bookings will be done digitally and this information will be sent out next term. The 2 interview dates are in week 4 - Monday 10th August and Tuesday 11th August from 3.30-5.00pm each day. Interviews are 10 minutes long. Another date to mark in your diary.
We are giving you plenty of notice about these 3 reporting processes and we would love to see the same amazing response we had last year - 99% parent participation.
Remember the best way to contact any member of staff is by email. If you are unsure of a particular staff member's email address send it to office@wanaka.school.nz and ask to have it forwarded to the staff member. |
