CURRICULUM COMMENT

Level 2 updates

As you can see from these pics we have provided reusable masks for all staff to use when needed and we have some children/families who are wearing masks/scarves in class. Health advisers recommend the use of face masks, bandannas or anything that covers the nose and mouth when there are large groups of people together and social distancing is difficult.  Our children and staff are great at handwashing, sanitising and maintaining physical distancing.  It is recommended that children bring their own named drink bottles to school.

It's great news that the EOTC/SNOW programmes are going ahead this week, weather permitting.  Make sure you consider 'face wear' when in the cafeteria or areas where there are people in close contact. Look after yourselves and your children.  Further information from the ski fields can be found under school notices.

Mid Year Reporting Feedback Survey

We would love your feedback on the three parts of our reporting - the written report, the student sharing their learning with parents, and the interview between the teacher and the parents.  We see this as a three tiered reporting process with parents involved in all three, rather than just picking one or the others.  These three interactions offer, we hope, a really full profile of your child's learning, progress and achievement - but we would like to know what you think - click here for the feedback form.  We will also be asking students and teachers.

Term 2 Survey Results

On Inclusive Practices and School Wellbeing

The results and graphs of the student, parent and staff surveys were presented to the Board last night and overall this is an extremely positive response about inclusive practices and wellbeing at Wānaka Primary School. However, because of a malfunction at the programming end, NZCER (NZ Council of Educational Research) are unable to give us a summary and next steps from the combined results.  Instead there are links below to the three surveys for your perusal.  As a leadership team we have identified some areas we need to communicate in more detail to parents, staff and students.  Students for example only moderately agree that teachers use their interests to stimulate their learning.  If you have any questions or feedback from these graphs please contact me directly. Once we have an overall summary I will publish that as well.

EOTC and Snow Programme

After consulting and reviewing the Procedures and Operating Plan for Cardrona and Treble Cone we have made the decision to continue with the programme.

Snow Programme

As a parent, if you would not want your child to participate in the Snow Programme, they will need to stay home. The School EOTC programme does not allow for groups to grow as they have excursions and this is very number dependent for safety.   Again if your child is unwell then also please keep them at home.

At the Ski Fields:

  • Please ensure all children have a balaclava/neck warmer or face mask in which they can keep their face covered (and warm).

  • All families will be required to sign in with the teachers and scan the COVID contact tracing QR code upon arrival.

  • Cardrona/TC/The Snow Farm and WPS will provide hand sanitizer to be used throughout the day, especially before and after lunch breaks and toilet breaks.

  • There will be more staggered and shorter lunch breaks.

  • Cardrona/TC will provide a space to place lunch bags.

  • Cardrona/TC are being cautious with weather decisions as finding protection from the weather is currently limited at Level 2.  Please check the website/App for cancellations.

  • If more cancellations/postponements occur WPS  and Cardrona could schedule more dates.

The final decision is up to parents if they wish to ski at Level 2.
