Tribe Day Fun Run and Sausage Sizzle

Friday 6th September

On Friday 6th September, we are holding a Tribe Day Fun Run and Sausage Sizzle at school.  We would like the children to gather sponsors for the event and money raised will go towards further development of the field for children to use at break times.  We are hoping to landscape the hill behind pod 8 as a quieter space for children to go, as well as building a ball wall and seating outside pod 7.
CURRICULUM COMMENT

End of Year Reporting

As we are moving to more interactive reporting in line with our Deep Learning initiatives, we will not be holding 3 way conferences at the end of term 3 and instead of a written report in term 4, we are working on involving parents in a more indepth look at their children's learning and progress.

We are asking children and teachers how they want to report to parents so that the reporting process is more real, relevant and indepth.  Your children may come home over the next couple of weeks and talk to you about this.  Some may even seek your opinion.  Teachers are very excited about a new way to report as a lot of time is taken in written reports for not much value to parents or students and this is our opportunity to make changes.

Early in term 4, we will be sending out some of the ways we would like to report to you about your children's learning and ask you for feedback about what you see as the best methods.  A few lines in a written report does not fit the richness of learning that a Deep Learning 'approach' elicits. We want to come up with something we will all find awesome.

If you would like to meet up with your child's teacher to talk about progress etc. since the last written report, please don't hesitate to make contact with them to arrange a time to talk. Teachers will also contact any parents they need to talk to.

Schooling Options for 2020

Meeting Tomorrow (Wednesday 4th)
Lake Wanaka Centre - 7pm

The principals of the Upper Clutha Primary Schools, Wanaka Primary, Hawea Flat, Holy Family and Take Karara, have organised an info session for any Upper Clutha parents interested in the 2020 schooling options.  We will be talking about enrolment zones, options for current students at WPS who may be now in another school zone area, school buses, transition programmes and we will try to answer any questions you may have about next year.  If we don't have an answer, we will record these questions and make it our job to find answers.  This is your chance to come and investigate the best option for your family next year and what you can and can't do.

Following this, on Thursday, we will be emailing a questionnaire to every Wanaka Primary School family to find out what their intentions are for next year.  We need this information, so that we, along with Take Karara, can begin to make decisions around staffing, resourcing and student organisation for learning.  To do this, we need to know how many students we will be starting the year with.
WE NEED EVERYONE TO RESPOND TO THIS PLEASE.

School Uniform

Please make sure you check your child is wearing the appropriate school uniform, especially our year 6 students, as some of them are turning up in non school apparel and unsuitable footwear for school. We encourage children to take pride in their appearance and their uniform as part of our RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY values.  Earlier this term as part of our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) programme we spent a couple of weeks reinforcing this.  We will follow up with parents of any children who do not meet the expectations of wearing appropriate uniform items to school.  Please support us with this.

Friday Night Lights is a hugely popular and fun event for our school community showcasing our school talent, with stalls, activities and a food court, the evening ends with a grand finale.

We are still looking for some helpers and we truly appreciate any time you can give, as we all know ‘many hands make light work’ and the small amount of volunteer time you can offer is all that we need to ensure this event stays on the calendar.
