Leaving Wānaka Primary School?

If your child / children are leaving WPS at the end of this term and you have not advised the office, can you please do so as soon as possible as we have started to plan classes for 2021.

If your child is in Year 6 and leaving to attend MAC there is no need to contact us. However, if your Year 6 child will be attending a different school, please advise us of this.
CURRICULUM COMMENT

End of Year Assessments

We have been working with classes and asking them to write a story after viewing a video of a fable. The leadership team, Kerry, Jason, Jennie and I have started reading these and rating them, ready to get together to moderate each piece.  This is then considered, along with their writing workbooks and in-class output, to make an overall teacher judgement on a child's strengths and next learning steps in the writing process. You will be able to view these when you come into school on Tuesday 8th December for the session where your child reports to you and shows you evidence of their progress and achievement.

Classroom teachers and our specialist teachers will be undertaking a number of assessments and observations as they collect evidence of a student's performance ready for written report writing.  You will see in this end of year report more written comments about your child's progress as a learner and as a person, with a focus on attitude, effort, the 6 Cs and their participation in school life.

Our year 6 transition programme is underway with MAC staff coming to talk to our Year 6 teachers and the first of our transition visits to MAC for some students beginning today.  The full Year 6 cohort visit to the MAC campus is on Monday 30th November.

Oh No Mobile Phones on the Loose Again!

A reminder that when you are coming into school in your car please NO MOBILE PHONES should be in use, even with hands free.  Our children are precious and we have noticed an increase in parents being distracted by their phones when coming into Koru Way and Ironside Drive.  Distractions cause accidents and we have lots of little bodies here, there and everywhere...and big dangerous cars too!  Keep safe when dropping off or picking up and don't be offended or angry if we ask you to get off your phone.

School Organisation for 2021

If there is anything you want us to know about your child's placement next year please contact the classroom teacher, or one of us in the leadership team in the next week or so as we will start looking at options for teachers and students to bring about the best combinations for our students' learning.

Also if your child(ren) is/are not going to be attending WPS next year we need this information asap so we can more reliably plan class composition and sizes.  As you can imagine it is a complex job and we always put our heart and soul into making a decision that is best for your child.

Stay Up-To-Date

Look out for the many events going on in the next few weeks.  Check out the school website calendar and read your newsletters so you can stay up-to-date and not incur the wrath of your offspring when they are not prepared for something.

She has arrived!!

And lastly...I am a besotted grandma.  My granddaughter Ellie Mae arrived on 6th November just before lunch, is 7lb 4ozs and she is scrumptious. Being a mum is an amazing experience and even though Annie, Katrina, Melissa and Kerry kept telling me I did not believe that having a grandchild would be just as intoxicating. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts and the wise advice.

Travel Survey 2020

In 2020, students were asked how they got to and from school over a five-day period (2nd - 6th March). In this report, student survey data is summarised in the following way:

1. How students currently travel to school – a breakdown of travel choice for 2020.
2. Travel choice comparisons – comparing travel modes over time, comparing active
with motorised transport, and comparing actual with desired travel modes.
3. Travel choice by year group.
4. Changes in travel choice.
5. Opportunities.

To see a summary of the results please follow the link to the transport page on our website.
