Rock Up For Reporting Parent Survey So far we have received over 80 responses to the survey on last Wednesday's Reporting Expo. Please ensure you respond to the survey questions before the end of this week. This will provide us with valuable information to make reporting to parents even more effective. Thanks everyone for supporting this Expo; we had over a 95% attendance rate which is our best ever. If you did not make it to the Reporting Expo, please contact your child's classroom teacher who will arrange a time to meet with you. Students First Day Back 2020 On the first day of school next year children will be directed to the following Pods according to their year level.
POD 1 - Year 0-1 POD 2 - Te Ara Hono, PMP and Literacy Lift Programmes POD 3 - Year 2 POD 4 - Year 3 POD 5 - Year 4 POD 6 - Extra space that we will fill once classes are finalised POD 7 - Year 5 POD 8 - Year 6
Please note that this is only for the first couple of weeks until we know final numbers in each year level. Welcome Back to Wānaka Primary School 2020 For the first two weeks of 2020 (it's only 8 days as Waitangi Day is in the first week and Challenge Wānaka the end of the second week) children will engage in a variety of activities as we focus on our throughline 'Be the Change'. The Life Trust bus will be here during that time and Pip and Harold will be working on topics around building children's resilience and coping strategies in times of anxiety, stress or change, and encouraging children to use their PB4L skills to treat others and themselves with respect, honesty and with responsibility so they can be the best they can be...which are our values.
We will plan activities that challenge children, encourage them to work co-operatively as well as independently and touch on many of the curriculum areas that are fun, active and help build the pod team. Activities will include digitech experiences, science, EOTC, practising for Challenge and the upcoming athletics, music, the Arts and learning around some of those 6 global competencies. We have started the planning which will continue through January so an engaging first 2 weeks is had by all. As part of this, we will invite all families to come and share a Tribe evening with us...it may involve you as parents pitting your skills against the parent team of another tribe! It will be lots of fun.
Next year's first newsletter will detail more information regarding all of these happenings. |

Junior Challenge (Duathlon/Triathlon) Friday 14th February 2020 This event is our school duathlon/triathlon and all children are expected to participate. Take the opportunity to get your kids on their bikes and training during the holidays. The event provides a safe opportunity for children to be part of a large event. It is a wonderful way to build resilience, risk taking and perseverance, all incredibly important life skills.
This is for school ages from Year 1 through to Year 6. This event will also provide the opportunity for the Upper Clutha Zone Schools to qualify to compete in the Central Otago Primary Schools Triathlon Championships in Term 4, 2020 (Year 5 and 6).
Further information is available at the Challenge Website. Please do not register on the website. There is no charge for Wānaka Primary School students.
Please note: registrations happen early next year and you will receive an email from us detailing how to register. |

Wᾱnaka Trail Ride - Sign Up To Volunteer Today! Saturday 28th March 2020 Thanks to those eager beavers out there who have jumped on line and grabbed their favourite volunteer spot for next years Wᾱnaka Trail Ride.
100% volunteer led, this awesome event relies on parents, bike enthusiasts and community minded individuals who are happy to share an hour or so of their time to ensure this event is safe and loads of fun for everyone involved.
To view roles and to sign up head to the Wᾱnaka Trail Ride website and grab your spot before you get wrapped up in the end of term madness and long summer holidays ahead. It's great fun, you'll meet some fabulous people and get a heap of warm fuzzies knowing you've played your part in hosting an epic trail ride and raising $1000s for our local school children. Don't be put off if you've had nothing to do with trail rides before - many volunteers get involved in non-specialist roles that require no knowledge of trail rides whatsoever. Half the organising team knew nothing about trails ride previously and they're still here six years down the line! “It was an awesome event and it was great to be involved with it. It was so well organised – everything to me ran like clockwork and a wonderful bunch of people to work with.” If you have any questions pop in and see Lucy Jewell at WPS office, Anne Marie Love at MCHW office or speak to Gillian 021 500 394 - www.wanakatrailride.org Facebook@WanakaTrailRide. Thank you. Photo thanks and credit to Tonia's Photography |
