This month, the City celebrated the opening of the Burns Beach to Mindarie coastal path, we released our joint Regional Homelessness Plan, developed in partnership with the City of Joondalup, and proudly supported two local businesses to develop their innovative ideas into a successful reality. We are also pleased to announce the City will be supporting a new event – Mambakoort Mindarie – an immersive and colourful projection that will light up The Marina, Mindarie this September. Happy reading! Deputy Mayor Brett Treby Burns Beach to Mindarie coastal path open for useDust off your joggers – the Burns Beach to Mindarie shared coastal path is officially open. The City of Wanneroo worked in partnership with the City of Joondalup, Western Australian Planning Commission, Tamala Park Regional Council and Peet Communities to deliver the 3.5km dual use path for our community, which now provides a continuous route from Jindalee to Fremantle. Pedestrians and cyclists can now jump on the path at Burns Beach then walk, run or ride all the way to Mindarie and beyond. Read moreCity awards tender for playground upgradesIn a win for local children, the City has awarded tenders for playground works in 23 local parks and open spaces. The parks will soon receive a range of upgrades, including new playground equipment, soft fall areas and shade sails. These parks are spread across 15 of the City’s suburbs, with construction to take place over the next 12 months. Read moreCities release homelessness planThe City launched the Regional Homelessness Plan 2022/23-2025/26 this month, in collaboration with the City of Joondalup. The updated document replaces the Regional Homelessness Plan 2018/19 – 2021/22 and is a framework that will guide the cities’ response to homelessness with milestones for action. With a growing number of people finding themselves in vulnerable situations due to housing affordability, lack of rental options and financial pressures, it is critical that we continue to work with stakeholders to help connect people to services and support. This is your chance to showcase the City and our most photogenic sights through your lens. The theme of this year’s photography competition is ‘Connected Communities’. Do you enjoy celebrating our diverse community at neighbourhood events or honouring the past at one of our heritage-listed historic houses? Show us how you remain connected in your wonderful community. Enter competitionCity supports development of local business ideasTwo local entrepreneurs have been awarded City of Wanneroo funded scholarships to the 2022 Curtin University Ignition Program. The intensive, one-week education program helps entrepreneurs, business people and innovators trial and prepare their business idea for the market. Mindarie resident Danette de Jager was awarded a place on the program for her Charleeboo Shoes concept – a range of footwear designed for kids with social anxiety. Adam Burling, from Wangara-based business Safe Central, was also selected to support his development of a new product line. Read moreMagical lights to shine across marinaThe City is supporting The Marina, Mindarie to bring an immersive and colourful projection show to the community next month. Mambakoort Mindarie, a vibrant art projection show, features illustrator Kambarni’s bold, colourful artworks projected onto boats at the marina for an immersive experience. Mambakoort, a Noongar word for ocean, will be held over three nights from 9 to 11 September. The free event will feature night markets, entertainment and kids activities including painting workshops.
