Want a 2-bedroom apartment in Youngsville? You will need to make over $24 an hour

by Adam Daigle | Acadiana business editor

Happy Friday, Acadiana business news readers. It's business news time here as we head into the weekend. Let's get started.

The annual Out of Reach Report from the National Low Income Housing Coalition came out this week, and it was not surprising how sobering the numbers were. I've written about the rising costs of buying and renting a home a good bit, but the data in this report drove it home how much inflation has hit renters.

To get a two-bedroom apartment in the Youngsville area at fair market rate, you'd have to earn $24.42 to pay the rent and keep your housing costs at 30% of your monthly income, which is the accepted standard of affordability.

The average rate you'd have to earn to rent in the Lafayette area is $18.92, up from $17.12 a year ago. And there are more renters now — 32% of all households are rentals, up from 31% a year ago.

You can read the full story here.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading.
