Express yourself: WHO and WhatsApp debut 21 new emoji for quarantine

Tired of the same old face mask emoji dominating your messages? Apparently, so are millions of users on WhatsApp. But don’t fear, new emoji are on the way to bring a little bit of humor to your quarantine chats. Facebook, WhatsApp’s parent company, has collaborated with the World Health Organization to create 21 new COVID-19 themed emoji stickers users can access for free. These aren’t grim or depressing either. Instead, they’re sprinkled with a bit of lighthearted satire — like one featuring a man doing a video chat in a suit, but with no pants and bunny slippers! Other emoji include positive depictions of doctors and healthcare workers, as well as affirmative messages that we are all in this together. Awww.

Some of these might seem a bit sappy, but it’s still pretty cool that they’re free to enjoy. Plus, we’re sure that pantsless professional emoji will stick around long after COVID-19 ends. Today, he is all of us.

Are emoji ruining our communication skills? Some language experts say “yes.”
