Police thought 23-year-old Dolal Idd was selling a once-banned assault weapon when they tried to arrest him last week. That's according to a court document made public Monday in the wake of Idd’s fatal shooting by officers outside a south Minneapolis gas station on Wednesday.

The warrant document also says investigators told a judge they urgently needed access to his family’s home to recover any weapons, before anyone might learn of Idd’s death and try to remove them or any other evidence. Idd's family and their supporters said the search warrant served at their Eden Prairie home was unnecessarily aggressive.

Minnesota has received nearly 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, although officials are still reporting fewer than 80,000 doses administered. State Infectious Disease Director Kris Ehresmann says Minnesota’s rollout is comparable to other states. Also today, the state reported 3,148 new COVID-19 cases and 13 additional deaths.

The state is lifting a ban on youth and school sports, at least partially, starting Monday with practices. Competitions can resume on Jan. 14. Group fitness classes at gyms are also allowed again with some limitations.
