Nov 10, 2021 Big Tech Update A massive Robinhood data breach just leaked the private information of 7 million users Popular stock trading app Robinhood announced a massive data breach this week. The breach is thought to have affected at least seven million users on the platform.
While Robinhood seems to be trying to downplay the severity of the attack, many tech experts say users could have a lot to worry about, as the app houses social security numbers, bank account numbers, and credit and debit card information for millions of users. The company detailed the breach in a blog post on its website.
“We understand that the unauthorized party obtained a list of email addresses for approximately five million people, and full names for a different group of approximately two million people,” the post explained.
But Robinhood did admit that for a smaller portion of its user base “additional personal information, including name, date of birth, and ZIP code, was exposed.” The company went on to say that “a subset of approximately 10 customers” had even more data exposed.
So what type of information is floating out there for some users? And what should you do if you have a Robinhood account? Image source: Shutterstock
