The WashU “buyerarchy of needs” provides an outline through which we can guide our decisions to prioritize thoughtful consumption. With this simple model adapted from Sarah Lazarovic’s original, you can access the plentiful circularity resources available on campus while also helping our planet!

Seeking Communications Specialist

Ripple Glass Recycling
WashU now has a Ripple Glass recycling dumpster on the West Campus. A dedicated glass recycling stream means that more of your glass makes it to facilities without threat of contamination. Give your glass a second life.

Mental Health Walking Route
The Connection Points project was led by Sustainability Exchange capstone students last semester. The project charts a walking path that connects mental health with native plant life across campus, using Indigenous names for the plants. Learn more and walk the route.

Medical Campus Farmers Market

WashU's Farmers Market will return from hiatus on Thursday, March 6. Stop by to purchase locally grown and produced items  and pick up your Community Supported Agriculture box. Visit the market and learn about WashU's CSA.
E-waste Recycling & Paper Shredding
March 5, 8-10:30 a.m., Lot 58 (South 40)
Electronic waste is the fastest growing source of landfill waste and represents the majority of toxic waste in landfills. Bring your e-waste and personal confidential papers to the church lot in the South 40--enter via Wydown Blvd.
WashU Earth Day Festival
April 17, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., McDonnell Peds
Celebrate Earth Day and learn about sustainable initiatives at WashU and regionally. The Farmers Market will take place at this time. There will also be a free bike tune-up in the UHSP Quad. Visitors, vendors, and volunteers are all invited.
Lab Supply Swap
April 17-22, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., EPNEC 303 & 304
Calling all labs to participate in WashU's first Lab Supply Swap. This swap will help keep usable items out of landfills while saving labs money. Take advantage of this opportunity to do a little spring cleaning!
Midwest Climate Summit
April 30 - May 2, Madison, WI
University of Wisconsin-Madison will host this year's Midwest Climate Summit, a three-day gathering of climate leaders, researchers, and professionals. There is an information session on Feb. 20 for students to get involved.
Gephardt Institute Civic Action Week

OneSTL Sustainability Lab

This event will be an interactive input session for the City of St. Louis's Sustainability & Climate Plan. Come ready to share your ideas about focus areas, goals, and strategies and to give feedback on the draft framework. 
WashU Climate Corps Positions
The summer term of the WashU Climate Corps will maintain the same three category areas: energy conservation, urban trees and ecology, and circularity.  Apply by March 14.
SPARK Applications Open
The SPARK: Sustainability Leadership Training program invites students to learn and network. It will take place on and off campus, including an overnight retreat. Apply by April 25.
Summer Undergrad Research
The Office of Undergraduate Research is launching the Summer Undergraduate Research Guided Experience (SURGE). Work alongside a Living Earth Collaborative fellow. Apply by March 1.
