This Weekend:
Texas Dining Hot Spots
New season of Goodtaste with Tanji starts September 15th!
Buttered Up
From what started with a repurposed shipping container serving grab-and-go breakfast, to a full-fledged brick-and-mortar restaurant, Picnik whips out some of the best gluten-free foods in the state. Their stuffed breakfast tacos with eggs and chorizo are to die for, but their coffee is what really draws in the crowds. They lace the caffeinated drink with silky butter to curb your appetite and increase cognitive function and energy levels.
Pitcher Perfect
Housed in the historic Pearl's Brewhouse that was built in 1894, Southerleigh takes pride in the industrial space that it calls home. Dark wood floors and paneled walls are complimented by the rich brown leather chairs that adorn the dining area. Partake in the Southern staples on the food menu, like their popular shrimp boil, or sip on a crisp, cold beer that was brewed in the loft upstairs in the same vats and barrels from over 120 years ago.
Itadakimasu!
Head to Houston's midtown gastropub, Izakaya, for some of the best Japanese food in the state. The walls of the vibrant dining area, which are covered in anime murals painted by a local tattoo artist named "Catfish", set the stage for the playful food. Try the bacon wrapped mochi or a bowl of their steaming Mexican-inspired ramen with a spicy menudo broth that reminds you of a rich pozole.
