Issa Rae Shines Bright
Webby Video Person of the Year Issa Rae accepted for using the Internet to showcase work from creators of color with Issa Rae Productions. Artist Luke James from the film Little presented to Rae, who shared 5 important words.
Social Movement of the Year recipient and climate justice activist Greta Thunberg was honored in a show-closing moment, presented by author/journalist David Wallace-Wells, and featuring NYC student activists Alexandria Villaseñor and Spencer Berg (pictured).
Legendary comedian Tracy Morgan presented the Webby Special Achievement Award to fellow Bronx natives Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, who used their five words to shout out their hometown.
Visionary rapper and Webby Best Artist Tierra Whack accepted her award from Freeway, and delivered a 5-Word Speech that may as well be her mantra: "Weird, hype, and creative kids."
The Kominsky Method star and Hollywood luminary Michael Douglas was presented a Webby Special Achievement Award by Kominsky co-star Sarah Baker. His 5-Word Speech? “My kids think it's hilarious.”
