Your Monday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Nov 1, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening, I hope everyone is safe and dry after this weekend's apocalyptic weather. It seems terribly apt that as COP26 (2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference) steams forward the heavens have burst here in Lancashire and the floods have come. A warning sign, perhaps, that this is THE opportunity to examine the precious world we live in and make decisions that are beyond politics, beyond our comfort zone and examine the inexorable truths. Of course everybody is saying the right things at COP26 - it’s the decisions and actions that follow which will have the most impact. The reality is we will all have to look at the way we live our lives to make a difference - we can’t just shout and blame politicians (they must play their role) but look at the energy we use and how we use it, how we procure it, the cars we drive, the plane journeys we make, the resources were are burying as waste. Nobody out there wants to kill the planet, we just are because it’s easier to leave it to someone else and I include myself in this - I personally need to do more every single day as do we all. As a human race we struggle to understand something until we actually see or experience it - the flooding is just the start. None of us want to be stuck in a fog of CO2, live in insufferable heat or starve. We might not - but our children might have to - if we don't act. Take care, Nicola nicola.adam@jpimedia.co.uk | |
