Your Friday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Jan 28, 2022 | | | | | | Good evening, Over the festive period, most of us will have sat down to watch a film we have already seen at least a dozen times. I am aware some people moan about repeats, but quite frankly, if there is no White Christmas, Sound of Music and Good Life festive special, it simply isn’t Christmas in our house. But while flicking through to find some favourites, a strange phrase started to emerge in the descriptions...a warning regarding ‘outdated attitudes.’ Thinking I may have stumbled over an old episode of Love Thy Neighbour, I stopped to investigate further and was amazed to find this warning on films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Jungle Book and even Aladdin. Outdated? In whose mind are these classics outdated? There was another example this week with former Only Fools and Horses actor Patrick Murray suggesting the catchphrase ‘You Plonker, Rodney’ would not have been allowed if it was being made today. Sadly, he is right. We are heading to a ‘wokedom’ where only the bland survive. We need to fight back. Until next time, take care, Gillian Contact me at gillian.parkinson@jpimedia.co.uk | |
