Friend,
Sinclair: 0 The People: 1
BREAKING: Tribune Media withdrew from its arrangement to merge with the Sinclair Broadcast Group, officially sinking the deal.
That means a major defeat for Trump’s favorite broadcaster — and a huge win for press freedom. Journalists, newsrooms and communities across the country are relieved their voices will remain free from the shady news overlords at Sinclair.
This comes just weeks after FCC Chairman Ajit Pai's surprise announcement that he was pressing pause on the merger proceedings.
But why? Did Pai suddenly have a change of heart? Nope.
He responded to YOU.
Your calls, your signatures, your donations. Your tweets, posts and emails. You sparked national public pressure, which led to a government investigation into Pai’s relationship with Sinclair. And that’s when it all came tumbling down.
Sinclair just lost because of people power. And we’ve only just begun.
Over the next few months, let’s get loud on other mega-mergers, newsroom layoffs, must-run segments, racist and xenophobic commentary, and all the ways that greed and misinformation harm our lives.
With today’s defeat of Sinclair — plus the passage of the Civic Info Bill this year in New Jersey — we’re on a roll in the fight for quality news and information.
Take a moment to celebrate this historic win.
Then let’s get moving to save our stations.
Thanks for all that you do—

P.S. Free Press and our allies are organizing across the country for a major push against misinformation. Chip in $5 or whatever you can to help us gear up for the fight. |
