We can’t have more of the same old same old on the Democratic debate stage.

Friend,

With white supremacy on the rise and the Trump administration waging war on vulnerable communities, we can’t have more of the same old same old on the Democratic debate stage. Media coverage devoid of racial-justice analyses literally puts lives on the line.

Sign the petition: Call on the Democratic National Committee to ensure that the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates address racism, xenophobia and systemic bias during the debates.

Friend,

Things aren’t good.

Just two days ago, Trump tweeted a threat to “remove millions” of undocumented people from across the country, sending panic through immigrant communities.

This is just one example of the terror this administration is waging on communities of color, immigrants, queer and trans people and religious minorities to rile up its white supremacist base in anticipation of the 2020 election.

And presidential-debate season begins next week.

With the Trump administration waging war on vulnerable communities, we can’t have more of the same old same old on the Democratic debate stage. Media coverage devoid of racial-justice analyses literally puts lives on the line.

That’s why we’re calling on the Democratic National Committee to ensure that the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates address racism, xenophobia and systemic bias on the debate stage.

With the introduction of solutions-oriented legislation like the Dream and Promise Act,1 Savanna’s Act2 — and municipalities holding local law enforcement accountable — it’s absolutely crucial that 2020 Democratic presidential candidates further this momentum by putting forth well-defined policy solutions during the debates that:

  1. Address the uptick in xenophobia, racism and white-supremacist violence
  2. Protect immigrant communities and communities of color
  3. Address systemic inequalities in our economy, health care, technology and education systems.

The Democratic presidential contenders and ultimate nominee must not only combat attempts to attack and divide vulnerable communities, but paint a concrete vision for the future. Democratic presidential hopefuls must address both explicit racism and xenophobia as well as the implicit biases that drive systemic inequality.

It’s time for Democratic leaders to push for bold policies to address racial inequities across the board. We refuse to wait any longer. Sign the petition: Urge the DNC to push presidential hopefuls to discuss racial-justice policies during the Democratic debates.

Thanks for all you do—

P.S. Democratic presidential candidates must prioritize racial-justice policies to combat the rise in white-supremacist violence and end systemic inequality. Urge the Democratic National Committee to ensure all presidential contenders discuss their visions for racial justice during the upcoming debates.
