Tallahassee, Florida's police chief requested one from the city commission on Thursday. It's very large, has a platform with room for two gun-wielding officers, comes in matte black and costs up to $500,000. The request isn't all that strange for Florida, where several municipalities have purchased the hulking contraption.
But despite months of protests this summer and calls to slash police budgets, it's clear that police departments haven't been deterred from snapping up military-style equipment, Hayes Brown writes in his latest essay. With Democrats fleeing from the term "defund the police," though, is it a surprise that any lessons about police militarization might not have sunk in?
