Good evening, What does Levelling Up mean to you - anything at all or is it just a buzz phrase? Today the Prime Minister promised to break the link between ‘geography and destiny’ with the publication of a new report. But we'd love to know how you feel about how we here in the north are treated. The White Paper sets out a series of wide-ranging national “missions” - from improving public transport to ensuring access to 5G broadband - to be enshrined in law. At the same time, ministers are promising to provide more power to the regions in a “devolution revolution” with the offer of a London-style deal for any area of England that wants one. But what about right here? What do we really need to ensure the future of our community, to ensure a future and employment locally for our young people and to put us on the map? We don't want to be London and never will be - we just want a chance to flourish after all. What the Government thinks we need and what we actually need are not always the same but if you had a chance to ask them directly - what would you request? Today and tomorrow we will be under the spotlight - now is our time to make a noise. If you would like to respond please email me and flag up if you would like your comments used on our letters pages. Regards, Nicola nicola.adam@jpimedia.co.uk | |
